Understanding the Levels of Wedding Videographers: Entry-Level to High-End

When planning your wedding, one of the most important decisions you’ll make is who will capture the day on video. The wedding videographer you choose will play a huge role in preserving your memories for years to come. But with so many options, understanding the differences between entry-level and high-end videographers can help you choose the right fit for your needs and budget.

Entry-Level Wedding Videographers

Who They Are: Entry-level videographers are often newer to the wedding industry, building their portfolio or gaining experience. They may be freelancers or individuals working as a side hustle while developing their skills.

What They Offer:

  • Affordable Rates: Entry-level videographers typically charge lower rates, making them a good option for couples with tighter budgets.

  • High Availability: Many entry-level professionals take on multiple weddings per year, sometimes booking every weekend during peak seasons.

  • Basic Coverage: Their packages often include a straightforward highlight reel or a simple ceremony video, with fewer customizations or extras.

  • Enthusiasm: These videographers bring energy and fresh ideas, often experimenting with creative techniques to refine their craft.

Considerations: While they may lack extensive experience, entry-level videographers can still deliver quality work. However, their lack of seasoned expertise may show in areas like storytelling, advanced editing, or managing unforeseen challenges during the wedding day.

Mid-Tier Wedding Videographers

Who They Are: Mid-tier videographers have spent several years in the industry and have developed a strong understanding of both the technical and artistic aspects of wedding filmmaking.

What They Offer:

  • Balanced Pricing: Their rates tend to fall in the middle range, reflecting both quality and affordability.

  • Proven Experience: With multiple weddings under their belt, mid-tier videographers are skilled at capturing key moments and understanding the flow of a wedding day.

  • Diverse Packages: They may offer extras like second shooters, drone footage, or extended coverage.

  • Reliable Equipment: These professionals often have access to higher-quality gear and backup equipment, ensuring fewer hiccups on the big day.

Considerations: Mid-tier videographers strike a balance between cost and quality, making them a popular choice for many couples. While they provide excellent value, they may not offer the unique storytelling or artistic finesse of high-end professionals.

High-End Wedding Videographers

Who They Are: High-end videographers are seasoned experts with years of experience, specializing in creating bespoke wedding films. They often work with a limited number of clients each year, focusing on delivering a premium product.

What They Offer:

  • Exceptional Quality: High-end videographers produce cinematic wedding films that feel like Hollywood productions. Their work includes professional-grade editing, storytelling, and music synchronization.

  • Tailored Service: They take the time to understand each couple’s story, incorporating personal touches and ensuring every detail is perfect.

  • Exclusive Availability: High-end professionals intentionally limit the number of weddings they take on each year to maintain the quality of their work and provide undivided attention.

  • Top-Tier Equipment: From 4K cameras to advanced audio systems, they use the best tools in the industry.

  • Extensive Experience: Their ability to anticipate and handle any challenge ensures a seamless experience, regardless of unexpected hiccups.

Considerations: Premium quality comes with a premium price. While their services are a significant investment, high-end videographers deliver an unforgettable keepsake that truly captures the essence of your wedding day.

Which Level Is Right for You?

Choosing a wedding videographer depends on your priorities, budget, and the type of video you envision:

  1. Budget-Friendly Couples: If affordability is your main concern, an entry-level videographer can provide a beautiful keepsake at a reasonable price.

  2. Balanced Value Seekers: For those looking for a mix of quality and affordability, a mid-tier videographer offers great options without breaking the bank.

  3. Perfectionists & Storytellers: If you want your wedding video to be a timeless masterpiece, investing in a high-end videographer is the way to go.

Tips for Choosing the Right Videographer

  • Watch Their Work: Review past videos to ensure their style aligns with your vision.

  • Ask Questions: Discuss their approach, experience, and what’s included in their packages.

  • Check Reviews: Feedback from other couples can give you insight into their professionalism and reliability.

  • Set Realistic Expectations: Understand what’s feasible within your budget and communicate your must-haves clearly.

Final Thoughts

Wedding videography is an art, and every level of videographer brings something unique to the table. Whether you’re working with an entry-level professional capturing raw, heartfelt moments or a high-end filmmaker creating a cinematic masterpiece, the right videographer will help you relive your special day for years to come.

Remember, your wedding video isn’t just a film—it’s a story of one of the most important days of your life. Choose a videographer who resonates with your style, understands your story, and fits your budget to ensure those memories last forever.

Was Your Wedding Affected by COVID-19?

I am truly heartbroken for all of the couples that are being affected by this pandemic. This is not the wedding experience that you or anyone else signed up for, and we are doing everything that we can possibly do to help you through this. I have been working day and night to find a balance between accommodating all of our couples, and maintaining a sustainable business. My company means a lot to my family and I, It also play a big part in the livelihood of our talented crew, who have dedicated their lives to this business we created. So while we determine how we are going to get through this, l think it is important to know that we are in this together.

I thought it was important for customers to be aware about how we are handling this situation. For those that know me, they know that I started this wedding business because I enjoy the creativity and joy it brings out while covering such a special day. I have always put my customers first and will continue to do that during this stressful times.

Options For Your Booked Weddings

In this time of uncertainty, we are waiving cancellation fees for weddings affected by CDC guidelines and offering free “wedding day shoots” for weddings that have been canceled.

Rescheduling to 2020

We are rescheduling weddings for dates within same calendar year at no additional cost. This is dependent on your videographer’s availability and in cases a videographer needs to be substituted, we are making every effort we can to do so. With substituted videographers, pricing may vary but we will try and work out details to keep it inline with the original booking.

Rescheduling to 2021

For weddings that are being moved to the 2021 wedding season, we will have to apply a $100-200 fee , paid to your videographer to reflect their 2021 pricing.

  • $100: Friday and Sunday Weddings

  • $150: Saturday Dates Between 1/1-4/30 and 11/1-12/30

  • $200: Saturday Weddings Between May 1 and October 31

  • Holidays Weekends will be Handled Individually Pending Availability

That fee does come with a value. Like myself, all team members grow better with experience, upgraded equipment and an improved skillset. So the videographer you booked in 2020 will be a much improved version in 2021, which is reflected in their annual prices.

To lock in your new date, an additional $200 deposit will be needed, which will go towards your balance and reserve your new date.

Doing My Part

As a business owner I have an allegiance both to my customers and team, which has always resulted in an amazing end result featured in beautiful weddings video. I believe being completely transparent with customers, will help me continue this, throughout this unique time.

I don't want anyone to think that we are hanging up our camera straps. We will do everything we can to be at your wedding whether it is on the date that you originally planned, or you move it to the moon in 2029. Whether this pandemic puts the future of my company in jeopardy, I am still committed to seeing this through with the weddings we have booked. Please reach out directly to discuss your specific situation!

I wish you all a healthy and safe coming months and look forward to making beautiful weddings for years to come.

Will Your Wedding Vows be Captured on Video?

This is a common question and the simple answer is, yes, Yes, YES! This is a huge part of your day and future as a couple. Something couples look back on for years on their wedding video to hear those special words they first said to each other. So while the obvious answer to this question is an astounding YES, let me explain the process of capturing your vows and other special audio throughout the day.

Wedding Ceremony Audio

During the ceremony, we generally use three different sources to capture audio.

  • DJ Board: We have devices that plug directly into the DJ booth and capture all audio coming through the mic and speakers, including the vows, readings, etc.

  • Lav Mic: Since sometimes during the vows, you are not speaking directly into the DJ’s microphone, we will put a wireless lavaliere mic on the groom’s lapel. This is a discrete device that will assure backup audio during that intimate moment/

  • On-Camera Mic: The last way that audio is captured is from the camera’s shotgun microphone that will capture the audio in a more natural way, as your audience hears it.

All together these 3 methods assure you will get all perspectives of your special words to one another during the wedding ceremony. And as a side note, during the reception, these methods are also applicable to capture toasts, speeches and more!

Perks of a Social Media Package for Your Wedding

We live in an age of here and now. People are excited to see and share their special moments. Your wedding will take that to a new level! And for good reason! However most brides don’t have time to be posting to their insta feed or sharing a story (wedding dresses don’t have pockets lol). The good news if your videographer is there to do this for you! While most videographers will create these wedding videos for you to see weeks later, Leo offers a custom Instagram package that will include photos and videos the SAME DAY of your wedding and more!

Wedding Day Instagram Story

From the details and the dress, to the first look, first kiss and special moments, Leo captures it all. Except he will share those most memorable moments directly to an Instagram story, with your tags and awesome hashtags so all your friends, family and loved ones can share in your special day as well! Don’t worry, nothing is shared until AFTER your initial reveal.

Post-Wedding Instagram Clips

The anticipation to see your wedding video after the celebration is intense! We understand that and Leo will also post behind the scenes looks at your wedding day to his Instagram feed, so you can see what is in-store. From drone shots to #FridayBrideday, you can expect to see some of the most stunning clips throughout your experience. This way, you and your close friends can share in the leadup to your big wedding video premier!

Expect the Best

While social media is a small portion of what we do, it makes it clear that Leo cares that you get the most out of your day and is willing to go above and beyond the typical “wedding videos.” The best part, is this is all included in Leo’s Premium wedding video package!

What is a First Look and Should You Do One?

Being in the wedding video industry, the term “first look” is a term that is used often so it is easy to think that term is common knowledge. However, for plenty of couples, planning their wedding, they may not have ever even heard of it! So I wanted to quickly address the question of “what is a first look?”

What Is a First Look?

The short answer is, when the groom first sees his bride, prior to the ceremony. This is usually done with the groom’s back turned, while the bride approaches. As she taps him on the shoulder, he turns and voilà, he seems her, in all her beauty for the first time!

You may wonder why some couples choose to do a first look. There are a couple main reasons. One of which, is that they prefer to experience that first reveal privately and intimately, without a whole church of people joining it. Having it privately gives you the opportunity to take as long or as little as you would like to enjoy that moment which whomever you do or don’t want to be there. Another reason is for scheduling. By doing your first look, which happens earlier in the day, gives you more time to take photos at different locations without being on a tight schedule.

Should You Do a First Look?

If you are on the private side and want to experience that moment intimately, a first look would be a great choice. However, if you prefer for the more traditional and natural experience of the groom seeing his bride for the first time walking down the aisle, then go for it!

If your ceremony and reception (cocktail hour) are back-to-back, I would also suggest a first look. This way, you can schedule your bridal portraits, f bridal party photos to all be taken prior to the ceremony so you don’t have to worry about squeezing them into cocktail hour. This will also give you the time to enjoy what just happened (YOU GOT MARRIED) without having to take dozens of photos.
